It\u2019s even more rewarding when those special events involve members of our own close-knit Fest family, as well as those we\u2019ve been fortunate to highlight through the years as Honored Guests at the Fest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Such an event is now on the horizon. It will take place <strong>November 8-11, 2018, at Monmouth University<\/strong>, located in West Long Branch, New Jersey\u2026only a good \u201cStones throw\u201d (try Mick, he\u2019s light) from our own New Jersey Fest location. The Beatles\u2019 <em>THE WHITE ALBUM<\/em>: An International Symposium \u2013 a virtual collection of Beatles\u2019 \u201cWho\u2019s Who\u201d from all over the globe \u2013 will take place in association with the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music on lovely Monmouth University Campus. And what a landmark event it promises to be!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, our own fearless leader, <strong>Mark Lapidos<\/strong>, will be front and center! And the impressive cast of distinguished lecturers and authors around him include people whom Mark has hand-selected, through the years, to keynote at the Fest as well as familiar faces from our own Fest family! These include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* the over-awing <strong>Beatles Guru<\/strong> himself, author, <strong>Mark Lewisohn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* the former U.S Manager of Apple Records and author, <strong>Ken Mansfield<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* GRAMMY award-winning engineer (who graced the Chicago Fest this year), <strong>Geoff Emerick<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* noted Beatles music theorist and author, <strong>Walter Everett<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>*the most respected name in Beatles discography, author <strong>Bruce Spizer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* award-winning Beatles music author and host of the \u201cSomething About The Beatles\u201d podcast, <strong>Robert Rodriguez<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* historian and author of the 9-volume <em>John Lennon Series, <\/em><strong>Jude Southerland Kessler<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* author and rock myth-buster, a.k.a. The Rock\u2019n\u2019Roll Detective, <strong>Jim Berkenstadt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* author of <em>The Recipe Records Series<\/em> and co-host of the \u201cShe Said She Said\u201d podcast, <strong>Lanea Stagg<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* author, associate editor of <em>Beatlefan<\/em> magazine, and host of the \u201cBottomless Soul\u201d show, <strong>Dr. Kit O\u2019Toole<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* author and Executive Editor for <em>Beatlefan<\/em> magazine, <strong>Al Sussman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, there are so many distinguished writers who will be attending this conference that it\u2019s almost overwhelming! And we are extremely proud to have so many from the Fest in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There is also a plethora of Beatles experts slated to speak who have been joyfully included for their stellar research and unique, outstanding roles in the music world. These include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Allan Kozinn<\/strong>, immensely-respected music writer for <em>The New York Times, High Fidelity<\/em>, and the <em>New York Observer <\/em>and co-host of the \u201cThings We Said Today\u201d podcast<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Scott Freiman<\/strong>, whose \u201cDeconstructing The Beatles\u201d programs are highly-sought-after<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* renowned record producer, <strong>Chris Thomas<\/strong>, who worked with Sir George Martin at AIR and was part of the production team of <em>The White Album<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* author <strong>Richard Buskin<\/strong> and <strong>Eric Taros<\/strong> who co-host the \u201cSwinging Through the Sixties\u201d podcast<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* author and Beatles music expert, <strong>Tim Riley<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>* author and contributing editor to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, <strong>Rob Sheffield<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, we are especially proud of\u2026.<em>drum roll, please<\/em>\u2026the man who conceived this once-in-a-lifetime gathering of Beatles greats and brought it to life: author of the highly-acclaimed biographies of Sir George Martin (Vol. 1, <em>Maximum Volume<\/em> and Vol. 2, <em>Sound Pictures<\/em>), Dean of the Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences\u00a0at Monmouth University, and long-time friend of the Fest, <strong>Dr. Kenneth Womack<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ken has planned a weekend for symposium attendees that will be<em> unlike any other symposium to date. <\/em>\u201cWe look forward to welcoming so many music fans and Beatles scholars to Monmouth University, where we will be celebrating the landmark recording and release of <em>The White Album<\/em>,\u201d said Ken. \u201cWest Long Branch, New Jersey, will be the place to be for Beatlemaniacs in November!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, 6 November, area fans will be happy to join Ken and Mark Lewisohn for Monmouth University\u2019s \u201cTuesday Night Record Club.\u201d And you guessed it: that month\u2019s LP will be none other <em>than The White Album<\/em>. Then, on Thursday, 8 November, there is a pre-conference bus tour of famous rock\u2019n\u2019roll sites along the Jersey Shore led by authors <strong>Jean Mikle<\/strong> and <strong>Stan Goldstein<\/strong>. Attendees will get to see Asbury Park\u2019s Stone Pony and Paramount Theater\u2026and will, of course, zip over to Belmar for a rare photo op at 10<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue and E Street. <em>Classic!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Also on the 8<sup>th<\/sup>, <strong>The Weeklings<\/strong> will perform, with several very special tributes to <em>The White Album<\/em>. And throughout the weekend, iconic films such as Paul Saltzman\u2019s <em>The Beatles in India<\/em> and Jerry Zolten and Dick Boak\u2019s <em>Ballad of the Dreadnaught<\/em> (the history of Martin acoustic guitars) will be shown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to all of the great talks from Beatles experts and scholars, Monmouth University will also be hosting music and recording demonstration rooms where attendees can learn more about how the bandmates and their production team performed and recorded some of the songs on <em>The White Album<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If attendees can find a wee smidgen of spare time in between the incredible presentations, films, bands, and tours, they will also want to spend some time browsing through the Bruce Springsteen Archives. This collection of 35,000 items from 47 countries across the globe is truly mind-boggling! Besides honoring native son, Springsteen, the archive also houses memorabilia from Frank Sinatra, Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson, and Hank Williams.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So\u2026right now\u2026 <strong>STOP <\/strong>whatever you are doing and say this into your computer\/phone\/Alexa calendar app: \u201cAttend THE WHITE ALBUM Symposium Conference, Monmouth University, Nov. 8-11.\u201d Then hesitate no more.
