Having concluded Side One, this month we took a short intermission to stand, stretch, and have a bit of fun. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>We invited Fest for Beatles Fans poet <strong>Terri Whitney<\/strong> \u2014 who has written two books of poetry on The Beatles and other rock\u2019n\u2019roll greats \u2014 to serve as one of the judges in a <strong>POETRY CONTEST<\/strong> in her honor: <strong>The Rockin\u2019 Rhymer Poetry Contest<\/strong>. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Thanks to all who submitted poems. They were all wonderful.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Here are the three winning poems&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sai Matekar, Winner<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>In My Life\/ Two of Us (or 6th july, 1957, the birth of the Beatles)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6th July, 1957<\/p>\n<p>Woolton church fete, on a beautiful sunny day<\/p>\n<p>Life became a song,<\/p>\n<p>When, John found Paul<\/p>\n<p>Soulmate found soulmate<\/p>\n<p>Music found magic,<\/p>\n<p>Loss found love,<\/p>\n<p>When Paths lead to home,<\/p>\n<p>Wrong Words and banjo chords,<\/p>\n<p>Found lost rhymes and a tuned guitar<\/p>\n<p>Together came<\/p>\n<p>Motherless sons, two<\/p>\n<p>They, cried<\/p>\n<p>Till nothing was left inside,<\/p>\n<p>On a neverending night<\/p>\n<p>Lines, in fully formed songs<\/p>\n<p>Songs, in half written lines<\/p>\n<p>Hands four played one melody,<\/p>\n<p>Strings across searching eyes<\/p>\n<p>Knee to knee,<\/p>\n<p>Growing and healing<\/p>\n<p>Memories,<\/p>\n<p>Longer and<\/p>\n<p>On a long road,<\/p>\n<p>John hugged Paul<\/p>\n<p>When the world changed<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And they<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Changed the world<\/p>\n<p>When Paul hugged John,<\/p>\n<p>On a road, long<\/p>\n<p>and longer memories<\/p>\n<p>Of healing and growing,<\/p>\n<p>Knee to knee<\/p>\n<p>Eyes searching, across strings<\/p>\n<p>One melody played four hands,<\/p>\n<p>Lines written, half in songs<\/p>\n<p>Songs formed fully in lines<\/p>\n<p>On a Night, neverending<\/p>\n<p>Inside, nothing was left<\/p>\n<p>Till they cried,<\/p>\n<p>Two Sons,<\/p>\n<p>Motherless<\/p>\n<p>Came together<\/p>\n<p>A tuned guitar and lost rhymes,<\/p>\n<p>Found banjo chords and wrong words<\/p>\n<p>Home lead to paths,<\/p>\n<p>When Love found loss,<\/p>\n<p>Magic found music,<\/p>\n<p>Soulmate found soulmate\u00a0,<\/p>\n<p>Paul found John, when<\/p>\n<p>A song came to life<\/p>\n<p>On a beautiful sunny day, Woolton church fete<\/p>\n<p>1957,July 6th<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Phillip Kirkland, First Runner-Up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>THE LIFE OF JOHNNY (ABRIDGED)\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Born of Mother (partly timey)<\/p>\n<p>Virtual Orphan, Mimi cares<\/p>\n<p>Wayward Johnny, daily howly<\/p>\n<p>Auntie living deep despairs<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cocky muso young McCartney<\/p>\n<p>Teaches roughneck, tuney strings<\/p>\n<p>Jam together, fledgling combo<\/p>\n<p>Rock &#8216;n&#8217; Roll &#8216;n&#8217; Blues &#8216;n&#8217; things<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Off to Hamburg, popping Prellies<\/p>\n<p>Playing socks off, kiddies&#8217; cheers<\/p>\n<p>Man, we&#8217;re groovy little group now<\/p>\n<p>Playing Cavern, Epstein hears<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Richly contract, muchy money<\/p>\n<p>Funny haircut, shiny suit<\/p>\n<p>Liddypool is distant memory<\/p>\n<p>Muchy fame and girls to boot<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Arty Yoko, avant gardly<\/p>\n<p>Wide-eyed Johnny, falls in lust<\/p>\n<p>Beatles crumbly, end of era<\/p>\n<p>Golden Apple turns to dust<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Uncle Sammy, John and Yoko<\/p>\n<p>Little Sean and baking bread<\/p>\n<p>Starting Over, not for muchly<\/p>\n<p>Mad assassin \u2013 Johnny\u2019s dead!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Presley Moffett, Second Runner-Up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Like Mother, Like Daughter\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like mother, like daughter<\/p>\n<p>Music is our common bond<\/p>\n<p>And every moment in our lives is connected to a song<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mom gave me her copy of Sgt. Pepper<\/p>\n<p>She bought the record<\/p>\n<p>Sometime in the &#8217;80s<\/p>\n<p>The vinyl was missing, but the cover was still intact<\/p>\n<p>She gave it to me and said, \u201cI have listened to this album since I was your age in fact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like mother, like daughter<\/p>\n<p>Music is our common bond<\/p>\n<p>And every moment in our lives is connected to a song<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the way to elementary school<\/p>\n<p>Mom and I would listen to the <em>1<\/em> CD<\/p>\n<p>It became a daily ritual<\/p>\n<p>Driving down the street<\/p>\n<p>Me singing my heart out in the backseat<\/p>\n<p>We didn\u2019t have real microphones<\/p>\n<p>So we just used our hands, you know<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like mother, like daughter<\/p>\n<p>Music is our common bond<\/p>\n<p>And every moment in our lives is connected to a song<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Even years later<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m in college about graduate<\/p>\n<p>And we still listen to The Beatles in the car<\/p>\n<p>As soon as the first note starts<\/p>\n<p>We get lost in the lyrics and forget everything else<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s truly an escape from the chaos this world creates<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like mother, like daughter<\/p>\n<p>Music is our common bond<\/p>\n<p>And every moment in our lives is connected to a song<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we fight because we care<\/p>\n<p>Because we never want to hurt each other<\/p>\n<p>Or be unfair but<\/p>\n<p>With all the challenges we face<\/p>\n<p>The Beatles have ultimately brought us closer together<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Like mother, like daughter<\/p>\n<p>Music is our common bond<\/p>\n<p>And every moment in our lives is connected to a song<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since January 2021, we\u2019ve been examining The Beatles\u2019 1965 work of genius, Rubber Soul, taking deep dives into each track.
